About
Ray Black & The Flying Carpets are totally devoted to the raw and honest sound of early Rockabilly. Still these guys are not afraid of critically selected garage songs from the 60s, that they translate into their own style and use them as a fuel injection for their mainly authentic Rockabilly sound.
The outcome is a highly driven performance, that is danceable, whether you want to bop or jive and shows the uncompromising dedication of the four bandmembers Ray Black (Singer, Upright Bass), Bone (Lead Guitar), Pieri (Acoustic Guitar, Baritone), Mauro (Drums) to what they do, on every stage that they enter.
The band is based in Stuttgart (Germany), but has played all over the country and in Austria, Switzerland and France. The band members have always been active musicians in the scene, playing with The Hidden Charms, The Railbones, or Dusty Dave & The Heartattacks so you certainly could have seen them on stage before.
Their 12-track debut album “Better Way To Move” was released on the Rhythm Bomb Records Label in March 2018. This was also be followed up by a 7“ single on Migraine Records aswell, featuring 3 killer tracks for the DJs.
In 2023 the band finished their second album "Downtown Ride" which they also release on Rhythm Bomb Records and is available on CD, LP and Online. A killer single to announce the album was released on Migraine Records aswell.
DJ Mark Armstrong had a first listen and this to say about it:
“This album is made by rockabillies for rockabillies it’s the real deal, a little different, and full of exuberant energy, and will introduce ‘Ray Black and The Flying Carpets’ to a greater audience base.“

Reviews:

Liner Notes by DJ Wildgoner
Here we got the latest recordings by Ray Black & the Flying Carpets, one of Germany´s finest bands when it comes to genuine Rock´n´Roll and Rockabilly. To simply call them a Rockabilly band wouldn’t do them justice as they also draw their musical influences from 1950s Rock´n´Roll, early 1960s Garage / R&B and early 1960s Country. Over the years they have managed to create their very own sound and style which makes them a firm favourite on the European Hepcat Scene. This brilliant album offers 14 red hot tracks, ten of them written by the band. The first song, the brilliant stroller “Downtown Ride”, could easily be a lost gem from one of Ronnie Dawson´s fabulous 1990s albums. If you do prefer some moody early 1960s Country check out their “On The Go” or “Thirsty In The Desert”. There´s lots of stuff to keep the dancefloor happy like “Speed King”, Hornet Bop”, the top notch Rock´n´ Roll jiver “Big Ol´Spark” or the wonderful Country rocker ”When The Sun Comes Up”. If you fancy another fab stroller check out the brilliant “Burning Lips”! The overall production and the songwriting are brilliant and the four cover songs are done to perfection, check out their version of the Popcorn stroller “The Wounded Camel”.
All killer, no filler, I absolutely love it !!
Liner Notes by Dollar Bill:
It was a great experience working with the guys in the studio on this project, and it was a real pleasure to witness each member of the band work with care and intention with every track they recorded.
I really think you can hear that in the finished product. The album has a diverse selection of different styles and grooves from dance floor killas to more relaxed ambient tracks. All in all I had alot of fun helping this project along and I believe you will not be disappointed with the finished product. It really is well worth a listen!
